Troubleshooting: OBS won't connect

Cause: the strip only renders while Streaming Mode is on and a backend is connected. Fix:

  1. Confirm you’re in Streaming Mode (red frame visible).
  2. Confirm OBS Studio is running on the same PC.
  3. In OBS: Tools → WebSocket Server SettingsEnable WebSocket server must be checked.

“Connection failed” with the server enabled

Cause: password or port mismatch. Fix:

  1. In OBS’s WebSocket settings, click Show Connect Info — note the port (default 4455) and password.
  2. In Mastery HQ Settings → Streaming, enter exactly those values.
  3. If you rotated the OBS password, re-paste it in Mastery HQ — the old one keeps failing silently.

Cause: normal — the app reconnects when OBS is back. Fix: none needed; if it doesn’t recover, toggle Streaming Mode off and on to force a fresh connection.

Scene switching works but mic buttons are missing

Section titled “Scene switching works but mic buttons are missing”

Cause: OBS reports no audio input devices, or you’re on the Streamlabs strip (which has no mic controls yet). Fix: check the strip’s brand label — SLOBS vs OBS; in OBS, confirm your mic exists under Audio Mixer.

Check the Audit Log for connection events, and the OBS log (Help → Log Files) for WebSocket errors — the two together usually name the culprit.
